Fitness centers offer support and rigorous weight loss opportunities if you use them. The biggest problem is people join them on a whim then after 1 or 2 visits never return having only lost money and not weight. Please consider whether you will truly use a facility otherwise put the money to use elsewhere and avoid the guilt trip you are likely to send yourself on. |

The Debate over Joining a GymGym’s, or fitness centers, are widely debated upon in fitness circles. Many people join one and it turns out to be a waste of their money, and others thoroughly benefit from a gym. Lets look at the pros and cons of each, so that you can decide whether joining a gym is really for you! Fitness centers have a wide range of equipment available, as well as weight sets and classes that are usually free of charge with a membership. Membership fees vary widely, but local YMCA centers usually offer discounted or free gym memberships. Joining a gym is a great step if you are very unmotivated. Friendly people at the centers can usually guide you on your first day and help you get on the right track towards the weight loss you want to see. This is just an added benefit of course, and the same thing isn’t likely to happen while you are at home. A personal trainer can also guide you and give you a specific routine designed to help you shed the fat faster than you could ever imagine! The cons of joining a gym are that they are expensive if you do not use them every single day. If you use your gym for at least 1 hour per day, and your membership is $30 a month, then you are doing pretty well. If you go to the gym 2 times per week though, it ends up wasting your cash. Working out at home also has benefits and downsides. At home you have plenty of privacy and you never have to feel self conscious. This is great for those that want to challenge themselves but feel silly doing challenging things in front of a crowd. You can easily purchase your own mini gym set for about the cost of a 2 year gym membership. The savings aren’t immediate, but in the long run your own equipment does save you a considerable amount of money. The downside is that if you are not self motivated then you won’t be losing weight. At home workouts take a lot of dedication and willingness to get out and do the exercise no matter what. If you stay on track you are guaranteed to lose weight quickly, but if you keep waning you probably won’t. Gyms and at home routines have plenty of ups and downs. You need to decide what will work best for you and how you are able to lose weight optimally. Not everyone can succeed working out at home, and not everyone is thrilled to run 5 miles in front of tons of people either. Weight loss is a large part of being comfortable in your own skin, comfortable enough to change and go forth with what you are doing. If you are comfortable in the safety of your home, then do it! Challenge yourself, work harder and harder each day, and you will see the weight fall off! An additional benefit to joining a gym is that you get a discount on personal trainers that work for the said fitness center. This can be a huge added bonus to someone who is very new to exercising or someone that wants specialized training routines to work with.
