Since there are a few mathematical equations that you can do to figure out how much weight you can lose in a specific timeframe, you aren’t totally at a loss. Your BMR and RMR are both important factors for weight loss. BMR is your basal metabolic rate. It tells you how many calories you burn without doing anything at all. This is what doctors and dietitians use to form guidelines on how many calories you should eat.

Keep in mind that the concept of weight loss is very simple. You consume less than you burn, or burn more than you consume. You exercise everyday to work up a good sweat, and that’s it. Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )
Example: 655+(4.35 x 200) + (4.7 x 60 ) – (4.7 x 18)

Men: BMR = 66 + ( 6.23 x weight in pounds ) + ( 12.7 x height in inches ) - ( 6.8 x age in year )

Metric BMR Formula

Women: BMR = 655 + ( 9.6 x weight in kilos ) + ( 1.8 x height in cm ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

Men: BMR = 66 + ( 13.7 x weight in kilos ) + ( 5 x height in cm ) - ( 6.8 x age in years )

You simply need to plug in your numbers, and it will tell you what your BMR is and from there you can deduct what you need to consume each day for successful weight loss. If your BMR is an even 1,800 then you should consume 1,500 calories per day for weight loss.
